Shoot 4 Work Record

Plans for shoot:
The plan for this shoot is again to use the studio and to take photos using different backgrounds and people but to then collage them with drawings I've done as well as other people. I will be super imposing my images. I will also be combining different types of 'junk' papers to create interesting backgrounds.
Research influence,
David Hockney is well involved in the art world popularly known for being a painter Hockney is also credited for being a draftsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. with a considerable contribution to pop in the 60s he is now considered one of the most influence 20th century British artists. I will be imitating his 'joiners' style.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I have mixed opinions about this shoot. I set out with the intention of having a mixture of candid and studio shot images so that I could experiment with natural as well as artificial light. The way I have interpreted Hockney's work led me down the route of using more candid images as they provide more character and personality, similar to what is used within his work. I also wanted to carry forward my drawings from shoot 2 so having some sketches allows me to implement elements of Heine's work into the final outcomes as well. The only issue with candid images is that if the shot is out of focus the moment is lost and I found this particular hinderance during this shoot. However, I did manage to get some good shots. The images of the underpass art were taken to implemented into my final edits as I'm trying to experiment with different collage techniques as well as Hockney's 'Joiners'.

AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
Where my camera settings were concerned I used a wide variety of different apertures ranging from F4-F8. This constant change in camera settings was also a feature during the night shoot where I ended up settling for an ISO of 1600 sacrificing some quality. On average I was using a shutter speed of 1/15 hence why some of my images are blurry as a lot of movement had been caught by the camera.

EDIT 1

For this edit I took a self portrait and used a photo of a CD case that I had used in a previous shoot and cut out the album art. I used these CD cases to grid up my images. I duplicated the CD case layer 9 times so I had enough to fill my image.

There was not a lot of editing required for this image as my final step was to use the Marquee tool and select the part of the sketches I wanted to use. I then created a layer via copy and transferred them over to this image.
EDIT 2

Here I scanned over an image I had created using the 'junk' papers collage technique.

I then gridded up the image as before using the CD cases from another shoot.

I wanted to do something more in the style of Hockney for this edit so I had the images within the frames not matching up. Although the technique I used to emulate his type was different as Hockney used a different polaroid for each of his frames, but the outcome is similar. Here I again used the marquee tool selecting the part of the photo I wanted to use within the frame. I then created a new layer via copy and increased its size so it did not match up, using the eraser tool to delete parts of the image that overlapped.

I wanted to experiment with mixing two portraits together to see what my outcome might be and so I took elements from my previous edit and applied them to this one using the same tools and techniques as stated above.

I then used the quick selection tool to cut out the parts of the graffiti I wanted to apply to my image and layered them so that they sat behind scan.
EDIT 3

I again scanned my 'junk' paper collage into photoshop, using the CD cases again to grid up my image.

As explained in the other post, I then distorted my images to fit the style of Hockney.

Finally I used the quick selection tool to cut put the graffiti I wanted to use and then layered my images so that the graffiti sat behind the image.
EDIT 4

Here I again scanned my 'junk' paper collage into photoshop and used the CD cases to grid up the image.

This again was a short edit with my final requirement being to distort the image to fit Hockney's style and then use the quick selection tool to cut out the graffiti I wanted to use and then layered my image so that it sat behind the Scanned image.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
The style of Hockney's work inspired my final outcomes as I liked the way his images were very raw and unedited. As much as I ended up editing my images distorting them to fit his style, I didn't change the levels of the images I used, the exposure and saturation all stayed the same. I feel that if were to do this shoot again I would shoot each photo independently to properly emulate his style but otherwise I feel like my work is a good representation of his as I believe my images give the people in them personality.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

I am not as happy with shoot as I was with the rest of them. I really love the style of David Hockney's joiners and believe that  I have managed to emulate his style but, I feel as if at times there is too much going on in the image and so some of the quality is lost. This however, would be something that I learn from for my further shoots.

Progression: you must refer to what you will do next to improve on either the shoot you have done or how you will develop your project in the next shoot.
Part of the reason that I prefer some of my previous shoots to this one is that I believe my previous shoots better reflected the artist or movement that inspired them, where as in this one the influence can be lost. For my next shoot I will look to develop further the 'sleeve face' style from shoot 3 as well as trying to incorporate the framing elements from this one.
